RED ALGAE

 These are the eukaryotic algae,also called as Rodophyta.It is one of the largest phylum of algae.Commonly found in marine water, growing deep inside the marines,but rarely found in freshwater also.The light of longer wavelength do not reach the red algae,but this doesn't cause any problems to them,because they absorb blue light and emit red colour outside due to the pigment phycoerythrin.

Nutrition pollution is one of the major pollution happening widely.In this case,the nutrient level goes on increasing in water,which in turn pollutes the water by encouraging the over growth of certain living organisms with fall in oxygen level.When this happens to a waterbody,the algae gets influenced to grow faster as they get plenty of nutrients and may also give green coloured appearance. When it comes to red algae,they give red colour,by which the whole waterbody looks red in colour.

There happened a incident in Bolivia.The shallow salt lake had turned red in colour due to the act of intense red algal growth.But the folklore said that the colour of the water was due to the blood of god.Later on,the scientific research proved the theory of the folklore was just fake and was just a belief or a kind of assumption.There is always a battle between the science world and the superstitious world.
